ZombiU – Sniper Ability With The Wii U Gamepad Controller
I’ve been very interested in Nintendo’s Wii U console since I first heard about it during the 2011 E3. However, since getting my hands on the Wii U at the International CES 2012 back in January, I’ve been a huge fan. The hands-on time I had with each concept was more than enough to get me fired up and thinking about my own ideas on what I’d like to see developers do with the Wii U Gamepad Controller. Developers can certainly have the same ideas, but when it happens, you always have to wonder if someone was actually listening to your idea.
Here is a quote from my International CES 2012 article where I was focusing on my hands-on time with the Wii U.
“You could even do little things, such as, if you were a sniper you could zoom in and it shows up on the Wii U controller instead of on the screen.”
ZombiU is one of the recently announced Wii U titles and during the gameplay trailer for ZombiU, it shows-off a feature for a sniper rifle. The image below shows you pulling up the sniper and viewing through the Wii U Gamepad controller, just like I envisioned when I wrote my article at the beginning of the year.
Whether it’s coincidence or not, it’s fun to see them using that ability in the game and I can’t wait to try it out myself. I will say, as simple of an idea as it is, I am glad that it’s being used and especially with one of the first games for the Wii U. During Nintendo’s E3 Press Conference, Reggie said that all you need to do is get hands-on experience with the Wii U to make you a believer. I didn’t need to have the hands-on experience to be interested in the Wii U, but after having my hands-on time, that’s when I fell in love with the idea of the Wii U and when my mind started filling up with all these visions of what the Wii U can provide in gameplay.
To quote one final thing from my hands-on article:
“We will certainly see a lot of great ideas come into play which will no doubt take gaming to yet another level of fun. Therefore, I can see the Wii U capturing the attention of all types of gamers. I can also imagine it bringing in the best of all game genres and opening the door for new innovation that continues all the excitement and enjoyment that we expect to get from video games.”
I still stand behind by that statement and I can’t wait to see more innovative ideas come about. The Wii U is set up to make things very enjoyable, not only for the casual gamers, but for the hardcore gamers as well. I’m certainly hyping up a train here, but I believe it 100%.
