Battlefield 3: Premium Edition Review: A Premium Battlefield Experience

Last year, Battlefield 3 was a game that I had a lot of interest in, one that is right up my alley. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to check it out and remained busy with other projects. Today, Battlefield 3 is still moving forward with more and more downloadable content to keep expanding the battlefield. This includes the latest DLC release of Armored Kill which I will get into in a moment. Along with all of this downloadable content comes a new retail release of Battlefield 3 called Battlefield 3: Premium Edition. This new release contains the single player game along with access to all 5 downloadable content packages and additional benefits.

If you are like me and never had the opportunity to check out Battlefield 3, now is clearly the time to do so with the release of Battlefield 3: Premium Edition. The price is the same as it was last year, but this time you are not just getting the basic game, you are getting the game along with all of the premium benefits. This includes all 5 expansion packages and a multiplayer head-start kit that helps the new guy like me perform better as I jump into online multiplayer action. The head-start kit automatically unlocks 15 different weapons, gadgets and vehicle upgrades. Battlefield 3: Premium Edition gives you everything you need to jump straight into the action one year later at a great price that includes all the premium content.

Battlefield 3: Premium Edition sets you up for premium action. It gives you massive battlefields to wage war, whether you are fighting on foot, with ground vehicles or fighting for air superiority. It allows you to play and enjoy any style you choose. However, one of the great expansion packs released was Close Quarters. For those who are a fan of pure on foot action with no vehicles involved, Close Quarters places you in smaller maps to fight it out that way instead. I was never a big fan of shooters that had vehicles that got in the way, it simply wasn’t my preference. So automatically as I dove into Battlefield 3, Close Quarters was the mode I gravitated towards and enjoyed quite a bit. In fact, you can see one of my experiences in the video below.

Now just because I am a fan of your basic shooters with no other interference doesn’t mean that I don’t like the massive battlefields that include Tanks and Aircraft. I was just mentioning my preference and pointing out how Close Quarters is what I naturally decided to play first. As I continued on in my Battlefield 3 experience and began my fight on the massive battlefields, it was really something to see all of the action that was going on. With tanks rolling around making their presence known on the ground, firefights going on near captured zones, and the air supremacy of fighter jets, roaring in the skies above – it was quite the experience. Not only is it a unique and awesome experience to see and feel on the battlefield, but it looks great and works extremely well.

I love flying and flying games, and was all over the chance to learn how the fighter jets worked in Battlefield 3. It’s not the easiest and I don’t believe the controls are the best, but the experience and knowledge of knowing what all is going on around you is incredible. I love flying so much that I got the basics down on how to handle my aircraft and while I still wasn’t the best pilot out there, I made my presence known. Take to the skies in Battlefield 3. It is a great experience whether you fly a jet or a chopper and is a lot of fun. Check out the video of one of my flights below.

Armored Kill is the latest downloadable content that adds more to the gameplay including a new game mode called Tank Superiority. Armored Kill also features four new maps along with new tanks, ATV’s and mobile artillery. It also features additional unlocks for you to earn as you play. Tank Superiority mode adds additional and unique fun gameplay and new maps fit this mode wonderfully. If you are a fan of Tank battles, then you will certainly get that with this mode. You can charge the enemy tanks and battle it out up-close or you can sit back and try to aim your shot perfectly for a long distance strike while battling over one central hold point. It’s a fun experience seeing the strategy that is being displayed in this mode as tanks fire long distance shots from outside their bases trying to make an impact on the up-close battles that are taking place near the capture point. This is easily another mode to be enjoyed and you can see more video from one of my sessions below.

The gameplay is a lot of fun and there are a lot of perks to unlock as you continue to play. Thankfully they feature a lot of “Double XP” events for you to partake in and are featured in a calendar so you know when it’s coming up and not have to look around wondering when the next one will take place. These events will help you even further when it comes to unlocking all the different gear and accessories for your weapons and your vehicle upgrades. It’s not the quickest leveling up process which is why you will want to take advantage of the double XP events so that you can get more gear a lot faster. However, even starting out with your basic weapons, as you play you’ll quickly be able to get the necessary accessories you need to make it easier on you. These items increase the stability of your shot and most importantly, a better scope for you to use.

There is so much to talk about with this game that I could go on and on forever. It’s even fun to talk about experiences during the gameplay. You’ll be able to play in matches that are quick and finish up in 15-30 minutes, or you can get involved in those massive battles that go upwards of 2 hours or more. You may think that is a long time, but you’ll be having so much fun that you won’t even notice.

If you are even slightly interested in this game, don’t keep listening to my experience and start creating your own. This is definitely a worthy purchase if you are looking to get into the game. Battlefield 3: Premium Edition sets you up right where you need to be to make an impact and to have a lot of fun right away at one price. This was the perfect time and opportunity for me to hit up the battlefield and Battlefield 3: Premium Edition package was the perfect package for me to do so.

I’ll continue to provide updates as they come and I will especially be giving my opinions on the upcoming downloadable content over the coming months.

  1. What was it about the game that made you score a 9 instead of a 10? There was nothing in your review that was negative. Was it just not quit a 10 or is a 10 unreachable for any game in yoir oppinion? Just wondering.

  2. Cool review, Battlefield 3 is all i’ve played in weeks, i bloody love it.

I just wish people would focus more on teamwork as sometimes the game can be completely unbalanced. I might have a few rounds of Tank Superiority after watching that video

  3. Thank you! I am glad to hear that you are still enjoying it as well. Playing in random servers is tough to find good teamwork, but thankfully that is not always the case. Still, I would rather be playing with guys that I play with all of the time as that always makes the experience that much better for you and your stats. 😉
