Mad Catz STRIKE 3 Keyboard Review: The Typing of the Dead

Ok, don’t be fooled by the title. I just thought it was fun because I used the game, The Typing of the Dead, to help determine my opinion of the Mad Catz STRIKE 3 gaming keyboard. Plus, I know it grabbed everyone’s attention!

Mad Catz has a line of STRIKE keyboards that include the STRIKE 3, STRIKE 5, and STRIKE 7. The STRIKE 3 gaming keyboard is what I’m taking a closer look at here, which is the lower end and most basic gaming keyboard from that list. It’s definitely sharp looking and well-built for hours of PC gaming fun. It features 7 quick action buttons at the top left side of the keyboard for users to program to their will. It also features a mode that can be used to choose the backlight color on the keyboard. Pick a color, any color! I chose a white, gold, and green color for my options to use on a red colored body. It’s always nice to have backlit keys when gaming to help display the most important keys when players need them most.

The majority of the time I used the STRIKE 3 was while playing first-person shooters like Call of Duty: Ghosts. I set up my background colors just the way I liked with a gold glow and began my journey into the latest Call of Duty game. The keys felt good and responsive as I ran around looking for endless waves of enemies in the many different online games. The keys were very quick and responsive for all the strafing, diving, and running around that I needed to do while in the middle of intense action.

The STRIKE 3 is certainly a nice little keyboard for the cheaper option. It’s certainly not as nifty as the STRIKE 5 or 7, but it does the job and it’s certainly well built. It feels natural and smooth when typing, as Typing of the Dead was the perfect game to put that to the test.

The Typing of the Dead is a play off The House of the Dead, and Sega brought it to Steam for $19.99. It also comes with a copy of The House of the Dead, so it’s a great buy for those who are fans of the game or are looking for a ‘totally messed up, but in a good way’ shooter. The Typing of the Dead is unique because instead of using aim to fire a weapon at waves of oncoming dead folks, users instead have to type the name that’s listed on the zombie in order to shoot and kill it. It’s actually rather fun and can be quite the challenge, whether the player is a fast typist or not.

The Typing of the Dead is a fun game to get a good feel for typing on the STRIKE 3 keyboard rather than just using the regular FPS keys to test it. It doesn’t matter, though, because the STRIKE 3 keyboard is a simple yet sleek and smooth keyboard that’s perfect for a lower option compared to the STRIKE 5 and 7 keyboards. Anyone who is in need of something new to pound on should definitely give this keyboard a glance.
