Robert Downey Jr. Wants A Piece Of Broadway

Move over Tom Cruise, you’re not the only planning a big musical move on the big screen – Robert Downey Jr. has just entered the building!

Considering that a great number of Hollywood’s leading men are trying their hands at song and dance, the already musically inclined superhero has signed on to star in a musical bound for the big screen, his rep is confirming!

So what’s it all about? Broadway, baby! The film is untitled at the moment, but it follows two songwriters on the Great White Way who are forced to take jobs at a theater camp when the show intended to be their big break turns out to be a commercial and critical flop – what a devastation! Is an all-singing, all-dancing comeback needed – yes! And that’s just what the film promises us!

Downey seems to have been born for the role. The actor has already attended theater camp and has long made public his musical side. He even released an album and previously showing off his pipes in The Singing Detective and on Ally McBeal.

He and wife Susan Downey are actually the ones producing the flick for Warner Bros., and already the duo are getting some cred-heavy help by enlisting the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning composing team behind Next to Normal.

Quite excited for this one, but I have to ask; what’s up with all the rhythm being put back into big-screen movies? Hollywood is speaking out and saying it’s all spawning from a ‘little’ show named Glee! Do you agree Gleeks?
