The Surprises, Snubs, And Sure-Wins Of The 2010 Emmy Nominations
The Emmy nominations were announced this morning, and as usual people were excited and upset about their favorites being nominated or being snubbed. Glee racked up on nominations along with 12 other Emmy first-timers.
Overall, I think they got the nominations mostly right this year. I’d be shocked if Lost didn’t take Outstanding Drama. It’s similar to Lord of the Rings winning Best Picture at the Oscars in its last year. And on that note, here’s hoping that the Lost Executive Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse spend their acceptance speech explaining what the heck happened on the finale.
One of the most exciting nominations in my opinion went to Conan O’Brien. It is great to see that The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien got nominated whereas Jay Leno’s show didn’t, and with the Awards airing on NBC, I’m very much looking forward to Conan’s acceptance speech. He’s a sure win for Outstanding Variety category.
As far as snubs, I’m wondering how The Big Bang Theory isn’t getting recognized in the Best Comedy category yet again? Do we really need to nominate The Office and 30 Rock every year? Because let’s face it, this has been worst season thus far for The Office, and 30 Rock is just loosing its steam. At least Jim Parsons got a nod for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his brilliant work on Big Bang, and word on the street is that this year he’ll take it home.
Other snubs? Katey Sagal’s power performance on Sons of Anarchy, Kiefer Sutherland for the final season of 24, and FX’s Justified.
So now for slightly odd nominations… Does anyone else think it’s weird that HBO’s True Blood is nominated for Outstanding Drama, when it’s not nominated in any of the other major categories? Perplexing isn’t it? Speaking of HBO, they’ve cleaned up and far surpassed their competition with a total of 101 nominations this year. The network continues to take advantage of categories that other major networks neglect such as MiniSeries or Movie.
Another head-scratcher for some may be Tony Shaloub who is up yet again for Lead Actor for Monk. Shaloub is no stranger to this category, and while Monk did air its finale episodes last year – it’s still within the time frame for this year’s Awards.

Well, I agree with more or less all of your picks! I think the nominations this year are interesting, and mostly on point. Some were obviously missed – Big Bang Theory, Katey Sagal – and some are just out there – Tony Shaloub, True Blood. It’s going to be interesting!
I agree with most of your choices. Jim Parsons was robbed last year, he does a superb job! My only disagereement is I think Kristen Wiig should win rather than Jane Lynch, but I will admit that Jane Lynch is really popular with a lot of people so has the upper hand. Kristen wiig was nominated last year but lost to Kristin Chenoweth. I think Betty White is a lock!
I think once you watch Modern Family you’ll change your mind on Comedy Supporting Actor.
Otherwise I agree with the picks here.
I’m going to start with a couple episodes of it later today actually. We’ll see if it’s as good as you say. 🙂
Modern Family is great! I really think Eric Stonestreet should win that category. He is hilarious!
I think you have hit head-on what alot of the outcomes will be. There are some shows I’m only familiar with by name that maybe I need to start watching. I would love True Blood if not for the constant sexual aspect (just not my taste of blood)! I’m sure we will be surprised somewhat though as always!
