‘Days of Our Lives’ Renewed for Two More Years

NBC has renewed Days of Our Lives for two more years; a rep for the show has confirmed.

Executive producer Ken Corday — whose parents helped create the series 45 years ago — told The New York Times he “broke down” and cried when Jeff Zucker, NBC Universal’s departing chief executive, called him Friday about the renewal.

“This is a time of a lot of uncertainty in the soap community,” said Corday, who also added that the best he had hoped for was a one-year renewal following the recent end of Guiding Light and As the World Turns.

The new contract will take Days of Our Lives through September 2013 with the option of one more year.
