FX Orders Full Season of ‘The Comedians’

FX has ordered a full season of The Comedians, starring Billy Crystal and Josh Gad. Crystal plays a veteran comedian reluctantly put together with the edgier, up-and-coming Gad (The Book or Mormon). The show is described as an “unfiltered, behind-the-scenes look at a late night sketch comedy show where egos and generations collide.” The series also stars Stephanie Weir, Matt Oberg and Megan Ferguson.

This will be Crystal’s first regular starring role in a TV series since he played “Jodie Dallas” on ABC’s Soap, which ran from 1977-81. Larry Charles (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Matt Nix (Burn Notice) and Ben Wexler (Arrested Development) are the writers and executive producers, along with Crystal. Charles directed the pilot. Gad will also produce along with Fox Television Studios. Production begins this year on the 13 episodes, with the series set to air on FX in 2015.
