Halo and Destiny Composer Marty O’Donnell Terminated From Bungie
In what is likely shocking news to Halo and Bungie fans, Marty O’Donnell has tweeted that he was recently terminated by Bungie’s Board of Directors. For those of you unfamiliar with his work, Marty composed all of the Halo soundtracks as well as working on other Bungie game soundtracks like Oni. He also worked on the soundtrack for Riven, the sequel to Myst and voice direction for the Halo games. Most recently he was collaborating with Sir Paul McCartney and Michael Salvatori on the soundtrack for Bungie’s next big blockbuster, Destiny.
Marty had been at Bungie for more than a decade. The Halo soundtrack is widely considered one of the best in the industry. Although all we have from Marty is the tweet, Bungie did post a farewell message on their blog. Unfortunately we have no further information on the circumstances behind the termination. Still, it seems unlikely that Marty and Bungie parted as amicably as the Bungie post makes it seem, based on the phrasing of Marty’s tweet.
