Josh Charles Returns To ‘The Good Wife’ As Director

Just a few weeks after Will Gardner’s exit, Josh Charles is returning to The Good Wife – but it’s behind the camera. The former series star is the director of tonight’s episode, “Tying The Knot,” which also sees the return of Dylan Baker as recurring client Colin Sweeney.

It’s the second episode Charles has directed in Season 5; he previously helmed the season’s eighth installment, “The Next Month”, which aired back on November 17. He made his directorial debut with another segment of The Good Wife, Season 4’s “The Art of War.”

Earlier this year, Charles won a People’s Choice Award for his performance as Will. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or TV Film. Following his departure, Matthew Goode replaced him  in The Good Wife‘s ensemble.

Yet don’t worry about him, as he’s kept busy since leaving the show. He’s made guest appearances on Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer and on ESPN2 anchoring sports highlights alongside Keith Olbermann, with a few references to his previous TV starring role on Aaron Sorkin’s Sports Night.

If you haven’t seen the latter, we’ve got it for you below – although it does contain spoilers if you’re one of the few folks who isn’t yet aware of how Charles left his Good Wife gig.

The Good Wife continues tonight at 9 PM ET/PT on CBS.
