NBC Orders Full Season Of Atlanta-Filmed ‘Constantine’

Get pumped Atlanta residents and DC Comics fans alike! NBC has ordered a full season of Constantine, a drama based based on the hit DC comic Hellblazer. The show focuses on title character John Constantine, who has battled the devil all his life and is about to retire until the daughter of an old friend is threatened and he jumps back in the saddle.

So what does this news mean for Atlanta? Well, the pilot was filmed here, and word on the street is that the production will stay here to film it’s first full season as well, adding to the growing repertoire of television and movie projects that have moved into the city. (Thanks tax credit!)

Matt Ryan (not to be confused with star Atlanta Falcons footballer…this Matt’s Welsh) will play the title role of John Constantine. The cast also includes Harold Perrineau (Sons of Anarchy, Lost), Lucy Griffiths (True Blood), and Charles Halford (True Detective).  Many will recall the 2005 poorly received big screen adaptation that starred Keanu Reeves, and yes, this is the same Constantine.

The show will be the first NBC series to be filmed in Atlanta since the Revolution pilot. Production  for Revolution moved to South Carolina once a full season was ordered, and has since moved from there as well.

There’s a wide array of superhero shows  popping up and more are coming over the course of the next year. Do you plan on tuning in to Constantine once it premieres?
