Molly Ringwald, Juliette Lewis Sign On For ‘Jem and the Holograms’

Fans of the 80s, rejoice!  Earlier this week,  Deadline reported that real-life rocker Juliette Lewis was cast in the upcoming Jem and the Holograms flick and  now fans are treated to a double dose of good news… The Hollywood Reporter is now confirming  80’s sweetheart Molly Ringwald has been added to the cast as well!

The catch? At this time no info is being released about exactly what roles the two have signed on for, but fans can certainly have fun speculating in the meantime.

Casting for the  titular role of Jem, as well as her Holograms and love interest,  was announced back in April with Nashvile’s Aubrey Peeples as Jem, Stefanie Scott (A.N.T. Farm) as Kimber,  Hayley Kiyoko (Lemonade Mouth) as Aja,  Aurora Perrineau as Shana, and Ryan Guzman (Step Up Revolution) as Jem’s love interest and road manager /technical engineer for the Holograms, Rio.

When the film’s production was announced, producers stated that the Jem adaptation will be “for a whole new generation with themes of being true to who you are in a multitasking, hyperlinked social media age” with the plot being described by the producers as centering on “an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation. She and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt — one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father.”

Jon M. Chu ( Step Up 2, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) is the film’s director and the first promo image of the girls has already been released by production:

For those of you who missed out on Jem due to not having been born yet,  or if you’re old like me and just want to take a trip down memory lane, here’s the opening theme from the original  Jem and the Holograms. Enjoy!

Any guesses as to who Molly and Juliette will play? Leave them in the comments!
