Disney Star Zendaya Cast as Aaliyah in Biopic, Responds to Critics
Zendaya Coleman has been on the rise since her debut on popular Disney channel show Shake It Up! which ended in 2013. She’s since taken home the title of runner up on reality dance show Dancing with the Stars, and now she’s been cast as the late singer Aaliyah in the Lifetime Original TV Movie Aaliyah: Princess of R&B.
Reception to the news of her casting has been pretty polarizing. Many are unsure of her ability to carry the role, as she’s fairly young and has more experience in comedic roles, while others feel she could pull it off due to her impressive singing and dancing abilities.

Aaliyah: Princess of R&B filming begins this summer and the film will premiere this fall.
