Lifetime is Producing “The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story”

Lifetime is keeping the unauthorized flicks coming these days! On the heels of news regarding late singer Aaliyah’s family not being on board with the biopic the network is producing, titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B and featuring Disney star Zendaya as Aaliyah, we now have news of The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story coming to a television screen near us on Labor Day.

According to The Wrap.com, the movie “will expose the challenges of six young unknowns growing up under public scrutiny while trying to maintain the squeaky clean image of their popular characters both on and off-screen.” Sounds juicy, and if you recall, Dustin Diamond (Screech) did write a tell all book revealing some behind the scenes details about the cast that ran on the scandalous side.

Lifetime even went the extra mile and got Saved by the Bell‘s original casting director to cast the unauthorized tale.

Here’s the cast list, so you can judge for yourself how well your favorite 90’s clique will be portrayed:

– Dylan Everett (Degrassi: The Next Generation) is set to play Mark-Paul Gosselaar in the role of mischievous ringleader “Zack Morris.”
— Sam Kindseth (Shameless) is Dustin Diamond, everyone’s favorite geek and loveable sidekick “Screech.”
— Julian Works (Paranormal Activity, Modern Family) fills the shoes of superstar Mario Lopez as the hunky jock “A.C. Slater.”
— Alyssa Lynch (The High Jumping Witch) plays the role of America’s favorite sweetheart, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, who originated the part of Kelly Kapowski.
— Tiera Skovbye (Supernatural, Girl in Progress) takes on the role of talented beauty Elizabeth Berkley and her beloved character “Jessie Sapano.” Rounding out the cast is Taylor Russell McKenzie (Blink) who will portray Lark Voorhies and her on-screen persona, the privileged “Lisa Turtle.”

The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story is scheduled to air on Labor Day, Monday Sept. 1, at 9/8c on Lifetime.

Update: It appears Mario Lopez has gotten wind of the project, and has taken to Twitter to express his feelings:

  1. Seems silly to me, but look at all the other junk we have on tv today. I’m sure some crazy stuff did happen. Don’t you kind of expect it to since the actors are older then the person they are playing?

  2. I would just like to say that I have watched this movie for the first time last night and this morning! It was absolutely great to me! It really opened my eyes, gave me more confidence, taught me not to care what others think, be myself, and most importantly showed me what “Saved By The Bell” was mostly like.

  3. Whoevers idea it was to come up with this awesome movie was an absolute genius! I wanna thank you so so much. This movie has basically changed my life in such a positive way. Oh the emotions I had throughout such a movie! It was simply wonderful. To be honest words cannot explain. Since I didn’t get a chance to watch the original saved by the bell growing up, this was perfect timing for me. If you would like to email me back for ANY reason whatsoever, please feel free and do not hesitate to do so
