‘The Book of Life’ Star Channing Tatum and Biz Markie Perform ‘Just A Friend’ at Comic-Con 2014

Fans who attended the The Book of Life panel at Comic-Con 2014 got a surprise when Biz Markie, whose hip-hop classic “Just A Friend” is included on the soundtrack, joined star Channing Tatum, producer Guillermo del Toro and director Jorge Gutierrez onstage for an impromptu performance.

The film follows the journey of a young man named Manolo through death and back in the name of love, and stars Diego Luna, Channing Tatum, Zoë Saldana, Ice Cube, Ron Perlman and Christina Applegate.

During the panel director Jorge Gutierrez told fans that his choice to use popular classics for the film’s soundtrack was inspired by his childhood and growing up listening to them in Tijuana. Seconds later, moderator Ralph Garman called Biz Markie to the stage to perform his old school classic, also included on the film’s soundtrack.
