The Voice of ‘Saturday Night Live’ Don Pardo Has Passed Away

TV voiceover star Don Pardo, the voice of Saturday Night Live, has died at the age of 96.

He passed away in his sleep on Monday at his home in Tucson, Arizona.

Pardo was known to millions in the States for his famous announcement, “It’s Saturday Night Live!” to introduce the hit weekly sketch show.

He made the call prior to the very first episode of the comedy in 1975 and was the announcer on all but one season, even continuing in the role after his retirement. His last SNL appearance was for the latest season finale in May.

Pardo began providing voiceovers for NBC in 1944 and worked on a wide range of broadcasts including news bulletins, sporting events, and hit game shows Jeopardy! and The Price is Right.

Several stars paid tribute to Pardo on Twitter following the news of his death.

Actress Christina Applegate writes, “Don Pardo thank you for saying my name twice. Dream come true. RIP LEGEND!”, The Roots star Questlove tweets, “RIP to the most golden voice of all golden voices. SNL’s and your very own Don Pardo” and parody singer ‘Weird’ Al Yankovic adds, “Very sad to hear of the passing of my old friend Don Pardo – truly one the all-time greats. #RIPDonPardo.”
