2012 Emmy Winners: ‘Homeland’ And ‘Modern Family’ Sweeps The Awards

Modern Family and Homeland were the big winners at last night’s 2012 Emmy Awards. Modern Family took home Best Comedy as well as Best Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor in a Comedy for Julie Bowen and Eric Stonestreet, while the ABC show’s helmer Steven Levitan won the Director award.

Psychological freshman thriller Homeland upstaged some of the more established shows by winning four drama series honors including Best Drama Series as well as Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama for Damian Lewis and Claire Danes.

Damian Lewis introduced himself to the audience as “one of those pesky Brits” and later admitted he thought Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston, who has won the accolade three times, would be victorious in the category again last night.

Speaking to CNN backstage, Lewis said: “I was quite convinced that he’d be walking up again tonight.”

Dame Maggie Smith took home the Supporting Actress prize for her role in British drama Downton Abbey and Jimmy Fallon won the Guest Actor in a Comedy prize for his cameo on Saturday Night Live.

Two and a Half Men picked up two prizes thanks to Jon Cryer (though we’re still dispointed he didn’t say “WINNING” in his acceptance speech…) and Kathy Bates winning the Lead Actor and Guest Actress in a Comedy.

The ceremony, which was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, ended with a touching moment as Michael J. Fox, who has been battling Parkinson’s disease for several years now, received a standing ovation when he went up to present the final award of the night.

Fox commented,”I’m steady as a rock.”

  1. The repeat telecast starts in one hour, here in India 🙂
But, i am very glad that Louis C.K. won two awards. He really is a great man and very funny.
I totally expected Modern Family to win for Comedy Series, they are really great! and also the American Horror Story cast, love them all.

  2. It is getting way too easy to guess who the winner’s are going to be, I totally called most of them haha. 😛
I don’t get any of the good upper cable channels so sometimes can get boring when shows on those channels win a award, as I don’t have a connection with them.
