TBS Cancels CeeLo Green’s Show ‘The Good Life’ Following Rape Comments

CeeLo Green’s unscripted series The Good Life has been cancelled after just one season.

The reality TV show debuted in the U.S. in June.

Network executives at TBS opted to cancel The Good Life on Tuesday, hours after the “Forget You” singer briefly shut down his Twitter page following tweets he made on Monday about the nature of rape.

Green has since deleted the tweets, in which he implied that women can only be raped if they are conscious.

He wrote, “If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! So WITH implies consent. People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!”

Last week, Green pleaded no contest to a felony count of furnishing ecstasy to a woman before they had sex. Sexual assault charges were dropped.

Women’s rights group UltraViolet petitioned TBS bosses to cancel The Good Life after Green was accused of having sex with the woman he allegedly drugged, but executives insist their decision to cancel the series was based on its poor ratings alone.

“This is a huge victory for women and survivors of rape and sexual assault,” said Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet. “No matter how famous you are, rape is never ok. CeeLo Green publicized views that rape isn’t rape if a woman doesn’t remember–a false and dangerous claim. We urge CeeLo Green, Time Warner, and TBS to take this moment to donate to an organization helping survivors of rape, and are looking into whether any next steps are appropriate.”
