Major ‘Game of Thrones’ Characters Missing in Season 5

It looks like Game of Thrones Season 5 will try to torture us by giving Bran and everyone’s favorite lovable giant, Hodor, the season off.

Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor, broke the news during an ABC interview on his Rave of Thrones DJ tour that Bran and Hodor will not be returning in the upcoming season of the HBO epic.

“We’re not actually in Season 5, by the way. We have a season off. We have a year’s hiatus, solely because, I imagine, our storyline is up to the end of the books,” Nairn said. “So I get a year off now to do Rave of Thrones and gallivant all over the world.”

Season 4 ended with Hodor and Bran reaching the tree that’s been appearing in Bran’s visions for two seasons now. Their final scenes also involved the surprise death of their guide and companion Jojen, a character whose final fate had yet to be revealed in the books. The Bran storyline on the television show has now reached Bran’s storyline in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series on which the show is based.

Most of the major characters have reached Book 4 in their storylines, with Daenerys being the only other one caught up to Book 5. Fans who are worried the show will catch up with its source material before the series is finished should not worry. Martin said earlier this year that he will be skipping Season 5 set visits in order to work on the next book in the series.
