Joan Rivers Has Passed Away

Comedian Joan Rivers has died at the age of 81.

The Fashion Police host passed away on Thursday at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital after she was removed from life support following a cardiac and respiratory arrest during a routine throat operation at a nearby clinic on August 28.

Following the ordeal, the legendary TV personality was placed in a medically-induced coma and on Wednesday she was moved from the intensive care unit of the hospital to a private room, where her daughter Melissa Rivers informed fans she was resting comfortably.

However, on Thursday, Melissa announced the sad news of her mother’s death in a statement, which reads:

“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.

“Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated. My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”

Rivers was born Joan Alexandra Molinsky in June, 1933. She became a comedy sensation on TV after appearing on The Tonight Show, hosted by Johnny Carson, in 1965, and later became Carson’s permanent guest host.

The two old friends fell out when she moved to a rival network and launched her own late-night show.

The comic was known for her biting attacks on celebrities and herself, often poking fun at her many cosmetic surgeries. She had her first in 1965.

Rivers won a Daytime Emmy Award for hosting successful talk show The Joan Rivers Show, and she often hosted pre-awards red carpet specials, during which she often poked fun at the celebrities before her.

A best-selling author, Rivers also became a regular on reality TV and fronted her own family show with her daughter Melissa.

At the time of her death, the funnywoman was on a stand-up tour and also hosted hit E! show Fashion Police and online weekly talk show In Bed with Joan. Production on Fashion Police was halted after news of Rivers’ health emergency became known.

We’ll miss you Joan.
