Amal Alamuddin ‘Wants to Hug’ Oscar de la Renta for Wedding Gown Design

Amal Alamuddin, the new Mrs. George Clooney, asked Oscar de la Renta to create her wedding dress because the fashion designer is the man “every woman wants to hug”.

Despite reports Amal Alamuddin would walk down the aisle in Alexander McQueen, the lawyer wore a stunning and elegant De La Renta gown when she tied the knot with the movie star in Venice, Italy on Saturday.

Vogue reports the beloved designer fitted her for her dress himself and then worked with his head tailor, Raffaele Ilardo, in New York to perfect the classic look.

Alamuddin tells the magazine, “He is the man every woman wants to hug! George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can’t imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a dress. Meeting him made the design process all the more magical, as he is so warm and such a gentleman.”

De La Renta adds, “It’s the most important dress in the life of a woman. Any girl from any walk of life dreams of that special dress, and I try to make that dream a reality for her. Amal and I looked at a lot of evening dresses and wedding dresses together, and we discussed what she liked. That gave me the idea of what she wanted.”

Photos from the fitting and the wedding itself will appear in the upcoming issue of Vogue.
