‘The Strain’ Creator Guillermo del Toro to Be Honored at 2014 ALMA Awards

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is set to be honored for his career achievements at the upcoming 2014 ALMA Awards, which celebrate Latin culture.

The Strain creator will be given the award for Industry Excellence, and the prize will be presented to him by Zoe Saldana, who features in his upcoming animated film, The Book of Life.

Also set to receive special awards are the stars of Orange is the New Black, who will be given the Special Achievement in Television prize, rapper Pitbull, who will be feted with a Special Achievement in Music Award, and biopic Cesar Chavez starring Michael Pena and Rosario Dawson, which will be honored with the Special Achievement in Film Award.

In addition, veteran entertainer Charo will be presented with the Ricardo Montalban Award for Lifetime Achievement prior to the ceremony, which will take place on 10 October in Los Angeles.

The finale of the first season of The Strain airs this Sunday on FX.
