Robert Downey Jr. Used Facebook to Help Grieve Mother’s Death
Robert Downey Jr.. announced his mother’s recent death with a post on Facebook to help with his grieving process.
The Iron Man star took to the social media site last month to share the sad news that his mum Elise had passed away earlier that week at the age of 80.
In a heartfelt post, he paid tribute to her for helping him overcome his addiction issues, and during a visit to Ellen DeGeneres‘ talk show on Thursday, the actor explained the message.
He said, “I feel like I’m not really ready to talk about it yet, but I felt that I wanted to do or say something. And it’s odd that I wrote something for 20 million people to read. It was kind of part of my grieving process in a way…
“She was a great gal. She absolutely had a big part it helping me get sober. And I think regardless of what your issues have or what you’re going through, there’s something about a mum’s voice that just puts you in check and it’s so hard to BS (lie to) them because for all the obvious reasons – try that we may.”
