Lady Gaga helped her pal propose to his boyfriend in an unforgettable way by staging the moment during her concert in England on Tuesday.
The hitmaker brought her ArtRave: The Artpop Ball to the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, and halfway through the gig, she invited her friend Jay, who she described as “family and an incredible man and incredible friend” on to the stage, along with his boyfriend Shaun.
In a video posted by a fan on YouTube.com, Gaga is seen handing over the spotlight to the couple, as Jay gets down on one knee and proposes to Shaun, much to his surprise.
After Shaun says ‘yes’, Gaga serenades the newly engaged couple with her equal rights anthem “Born This Way”.
She told the crowd, “It’s so bizarre, you know, my record label a long time ago they told me that my show is too gay and I was too gay or this was too gay.
“I told them, ‘Well it’s a great thing that there are gay people all over the world!’ We’re all human beings with real dreams and real stories and you deserve to love and express your love the same as everybody around the world.”
She continued, “I’m pretty sure I don’t have to say this because this a pretty free-thinking city, but I’m going to f**king say it anyway: if you are living in the U.K. or in Manchester and whether you are young or old or in the middle, if you are gay hold your head up high and be proud. You don’t have to hide. You’re human.
“And if anybody here in the audience, I can’t imagine there is, but if anybody here is uncomfortable with this you should probably f**king go because you’re on the wrong side of history and everybody in here is on the right side.”
Gaga ended by telling Jay and Shaun, “I wish you a beautiful, long and happy life.”
