‘The Originals’ Stars Charles Michael Davis and Phoebe Tonkin Talk Elijah, Gia and More!

The Originals stars Phoebe Tonkin and Charles Michael Davis recently sat down with us to share some details on what to expect for their characters Hayley and Marcel in the near future. We’ve got details on Marcel and Davina’s relationship, Hayley and Elijah’s relationship and Hayley and Hope, among other revelations.

When it comes to the men in her life, Hayley has no shortage of suitors and although many try, it’s hard to deny the chemistry she has with Elijah. “Right now, there’s still a lot of hostility between Hayley and Elijah,” shared Phoebe. “I think she’s really torn between what her heart is telling her she should do and what she believes that she should do for the good of the pack and her people and to be a good leader. Which is what she thinks she was born to do, but she still has obviously strong feelings for Elijah. I think she’s really torn. I don’t know if she knows what she wants or knows what she should do.”

Although Hayley and Elijah are still very much up in the air, one thing that’s definitely happening soon is the reunion of Hayley with her and Klaus’ daughter Hope. “Rebekah’s been keeping Hope safe so far, but obviously this family is still under a lot of danger, and there’s a lot of enemies of the family that are still looking for Rebekah and looking to kind of take aim at the Mikaelsons. So the threat of being found out is still very present,” Phoebe commented. “Right now Hayley’s main intention, throughout this second season, is to create a safe environment for her baby to come back to live in New Orleans and to live happily ever after as a normal mom, which is a really nice idea in theory, but I don’t necessarily know how easy that’s going to be.”

“In terms of Hayley and Rebekah and Hope, I think she’s just trying to hold down the fort a little bit. She’s trying to build the right alliances and kind of create a little bit of an army, because it’s not that simple as just kind of, going out and playing with the baby. There’s a lot of other things that are going on around that.” Phoebe also added. “So yeah, she’s trying to create a safe environment.”

Speaking of parenting, Charles Michael Davis’ Marcel has developed a sort of father-daughter relationship with the show’s resident witch, Davina, a dynamic that could shift over the course of the season according to Charles. “She’s standing strong on her own, and that’s one of the things Marcel loves her for and wants to guide and protect her, but that can only take her so far before it becomes smothering and controlling. Experience is one of the best teachers, so she’s going to go get some experience and some context of her own – so that later when they come back together, if they come back together, it’ll be a different relationship rather than sort of a father-daughter. Maybe it’ll be more like peers,” Davis stated.

So is there any chance of a romantic relationship between Marcel and his new vamp mentee Gia? Charles laughed, “Well, you know, I like to parallel this with the Hayley/Klaus relationship. That there could be a possibility, but I don’t know.”

Finally, let’s circle back to Hayley and her multitude of relationships on on the show, romantic and non. When asked about Hayley’s feelings toward her intended mate and Alpha werewolf, Jackson, Phoebe replied, “Obviously she has very strong feelings for Elijah, but she can understand having a relationship, not in terms of a romantic relationship, but being close with Jackson,” She continued. “He’s the Alpha of the pack, and she definitely needs him to be strong and lead the pack, which ultimately benefits her, because she’s trying to do the same and lead the werewolves in the right direction.

“You know, as they kind of get closer, and they go on these journeys together, they are getting closer, and they’re getting to know each other. It’s quite sweet, because they’ve essentially known each other since they were 4 or 5 years old when their parents had planned for them to be married when they were older. They’ve known, well at least Jackson’s known about Hayley his whole life, and now he’s getting to properly get to know her as an adult. I think there are some feelings that are growing, maybe not necessarily mutually, but definitely as they get closer.”
