Jennifer Lawrence’s ‘The Hanging Tree’ Debuts on UK Top 40 Chart

Jennifer Lawrence isn’t only finding success at the box office this holiday season. The actress has also found herself at #29 on the Top 40 chart in the U.K. with ‘The Hanging Tree,’ a song from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.

Lawrence was said to be incredibly nervous about singing in the film. “She was horrified to sing. She cried a little bit in the morning before [the scene]… She’d probably tell you it was her least favourite day [on set].” Mockingjay director Francis Lawrence recently revealed to Radio Times Magazine.

‘The Hanging Tree’ was written by The Lumineers, and once they sent the song over, Lawrence started training with a vocal coach who worked on shifting the key in her voice for the song. Lawrence wasn’t too key on the training though.

“Jen didn’t really want to do too much of the training, but she recorded it for me as a test so I could hear it. I was worried, I really thought we were going to have to do a bunch of pitch shifting, but she sounded great.” Francis Lawrence also explained. “What you hear in the movie is what she did on the day in the quarry.”
