In Case You’re Wondering Why Courtney Love Isn’t Involved in the Production of the Kurt Cobain Biopic

Courtney Love has been frozen out of a planned new Kurt Cobain biopic after director Brett Morgen refused to give her editorial control of the project, but the intent is not as malicious as it sounds.

Morgen, who is working on the film with Cobain and Love’s daughter Frances Bean, admits he decided not to give the Hole star control over Montage of Heck, because she features in the documentary.

He tells The Hollywood Reporter, “At a certain point, I started working more closely with Frances Bean and we agreed that because Courtney was a subject in the film, it would be best if she wasn’t given editorial control.”

Love initially brought the film idea to Morgen in 2007 after he impressed her with his 2002 Robert Evans biopic, The Kid Stays in the Picture, and she gave him access to her personal archives.

Morgen tells the publication Love has not seen his film, which is scheduled to premiere at the Sundance festival next month, adding, “I’m not sure she’s intending to.”
