Tyga Confirms He’s Leaving Cash Money Records

Tyga has confirmed he is in the process of leaving his label, Cash Money Records, just days after his labelmate Lil Wayne declared he wanted out of his contract.

Last Thursday , Wayne told his fans that his highly-anticipated album, Tha Carter V, would not be released on Tuesday as planned, because his longtime mentor and Cash Money co-founder Bryan ‘Birdman’ Williams refused to put it out.

Because of the hold-up, Wayne wrote on Twitter that he wanted off the label, and added, “I… want nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain’t that easy. I am a prisoner and so is my creativity.”

On Friday, Tyga echoed his friend’s sentiments, telling Los Angeles radio station Power 106 that he has decided to release his next album on his own and will be departing from Cash Money.

The “Rack City” hitmaker revealed, “The album is done so I’m going to put it out independently, I’m just getting out of my deal right now.

“I feel like as an artist what we do creatively should never be imprisoned and at the end of the day we do it to bring it to the fans. It’s not a selfish thing, it’s just not fair to the fans. You’ve got millions of people who want your music and they don’t understand the behind-the-scenes politics.”

Tyga is so eager to release his album that he’s contributing his own funds to making and promoting it, adding, “I’m dropping (the record) regardless. I’m paying for my own videos and everything so I ain’t waiting on nobody. Everything come to the light so you got to treat people the way you want to be treated at the end of the day.”

Tyga has been with Cash Money and Wayne’s spin-off label Young Money Entertainment since 2011.
