Usher and Kanye West Among 2015 BET Honors Honorees

Usher and Kanye West are celebrating early this Christmas after landing special career awards for the 2015 BET Honors.

West will receive the Visionary Award, while Usher will be presented with the Musical Arts Award.

They will be among five luminaries, including Theatrical Arts Award recipient Phylicia Rashad, Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole and John W. Thompson, are set to be feted at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on January 24.

The eighth annual special will be hosted by television personality, actor and comedian, Wayne Brady and according to the network, “proceeds from the private sale of “The BET Honors” 2015 will benefit the National Cares Mentoring Program, an organization that helps transform the lives of Black children by inspiring, recruiting, and mobilizing masses of caring Black men and women to mentor and nourish, challenge and champion them.”

Previous stars saluted at the annual BET Honors event, which marks the achievements of African-American stars, include Stevie Wonder, Halle Berry, Chaka Khan, late poet Maya Angelou and tragic superstar Whitney Houston.
