New Pee-Wee Herman Film Coming to Netflix

The long-awaited new Pee-Wee Herman film has been picked up for distribution via Netflix. This, unfortunately, means that the film is unlikely to receive theatrical distribution.

The currently untitled film was produced by Judd Apatow and set up at Universal Pictures. However, the film is no longer at the studio. It apparently moved to Netflix some months ago. Paul Reubens returns to the role of Pee-Wee Herman. The film has been in the works for several years.

Reubens first confirmed the film was happening during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor said, “I was hoping that I could make this huge announcement tonight, but it’s a week away, I think, from being announced… We’ve hired a director, but I can’t say who it is…”

Reubens co-wrote the script with Paul Rust (Comedy Bang Bang!). Production is slated to begin in February.
