Justin Lin to Direct ‘Star Trek 3’
Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) will boldly go where no man has gone before as the director of Star Trek 3. Lin is taking over the role from writer and producer Roberto Orci.
Previously, Lin was looking at directing a potential sequel to The Bourne Legacy. However, due to the poor performance of the film starring Jeremy Renner, Universal Pictures looks keen to bring back Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass for the next installment.
Lin was reportedly the only other director that was offered the job to direct Star Trek 3. Paramount hopes to release the film in 2016. In addition, Lin will also be directing two episodes for the upcoming season of True Detective.
JJ Abrams directed the first 2 installments but then left the reins to head up Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
