Paramount Offers New York Students Free ‘Selma’ Screenings

Paramount Pictures bosses are offering students in New York City free passes to upcoming screenings of civil rights drama Selma.

Studio executives have teamed up with 27 African-American business leaders in the Big Apple to offer free admission to 7th, 8th and 9th grade students at participating cinemas from January 8-19.

It was previously announced that the critically acclaimed film, which stars British actor David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King, Jr., is also being screened for free at a theatre in Selma, Alabama, where the film’s real-life civil rights protests were held 50 years ago.

Selma, which is up for four Golden Globes at Sunday’s prizegiving, opens everywhere in the U.S. on Friday.
