J.K. Rowling and Aziz Ansari Slam Rupert Murdoch for Anti-Muslim Comments

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and comedian Aziz Ansari have taken aim at media mogul Rupert Murdoch online after he insisted the entire Muslim community should be “held responsible” for the terrorist attack on the offices of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo last week.

Murdoch made the ill-advised comments in a series of posts on Sunday, when he criticized Muslims for failing to reign in and “destroy” the group of Islamic extremists who have given the religion a bad name.

He wrote, “Maybe most Moslems (sic) (are) peaceful, but until they recognize and destroy their growing jihadist cancer they must be held responsible…

“Big jihadist danger looming everywhere from Philippines to Africa to Europe to US. Political correctness makes for denial and hypocrisy.”

Rowling caught sight of the online rant and has fired back at Murdoch, mocking his views by writing, “I was born Christian. If that makes Rupert Murdoch my responsibility, I’ll auto-excommunicate”.

The Brit then added, “The Spanish Inquisition was my fault, as is all Christian fundamentalist violence”, before sharing a news article titled, Eight times more Muslims have been killed by so-called Islamic terrorists than non-Muslims.

Funnyman Ansari also condemned the tabloid owner for his “racist” comments in a series of entertaining tweets, writing, “Rups can we get a step by step guide? How can my 60 year old parents in NC (North Carolina) help destroy terrorist groups? Plz (sic) advise.”

He then used Murdoch’s same logic on a number of religious scandals, jokingly blaming the businessman for each controversy by spreading the hashtag, ‘#RupertsFault’.

He wrote, “Are you responsible for the evil s**t all Christians do or just the insane amount of evil you yourself contribute to?” and then tweeted, “@rupertmurdoch, you’re already a vaguely evil media conglomerate guy and THEN you’re ALSO racist? FOR REAL?! You’re an evil overachiever!”

His other tongue-in-cheek comments included, “You are Catholic, why are you not hunting pedophiles? #RupertsFault” and “@rupertmurdoch is Christian just like Mark David Chapman who shot John Lennon. Why didn’t Rupert stop it? #RupertsFault”.

However, Ansari made it absolutely clear he was simply poking fun at Murdoch’s ignorant approach to the Paris tragedy, concluding his posts by writing, “To be clear, I am not religious and have nothing against Christians or Muslims. Just ignorance like what @rupertmurdoch is spreading.”

The Islamic militants who killed 12 journalists and cartoonists during the attack last week were reportedly opposed to the publication’s depiction of the prophet Muhammad in its many illustrations.
