Idris Elba Embarks on Road Trip for Jaguar

Idris Elba has embarked on an epic road trip from London to Berlin, Germany for a new Jaguar car promotion.

The Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom star, 42, will travel 750 miles in the Jaguar XE, the most fuel-efficient model ever produced by the luxury auto firm, on a journey which will take him across four countries during wintery conditions in just three days.

The trek, which kicked off on Sunday, will be documented on camera using the vehicle’s high-tech ‘infotainment’ (information and entertainment) system. A series of short films from the adventure will be released over the course of next month.

Elba is expected to arrive in Berlin on Tuesday afternoon, when he will DJ at a pop-up party to celebrate the forthcoming release of the Jaguar XE.

Discussing the challenge prior to the drive, Elba said, “My work takes me around the world, but I rarely have the time or luxury of getting behind the wheel for myself. I wanted to do this trip and record the experience through a series of short films.

“I have long been a fan of Jaguar’s incredible sporting heritage and have been truly impressed with how the brand has evolved over the past few years. It’s a real privilege being the first person to take the new XE on a significant road trip across Europe.”

Jaguar Land Rover executive Fiona Pargeter added, “As a keen driver with a passion for cars, technology and music, Idris is the perfect fit to test the new Jaguar XE. We look forward to seeing how he achieves an economical drive despite challenging winter conditions.”
