‘DuckTales’ Heading Back to TV in 2017

DuckTales is heading back to the small screen, almost three decades after it went off air.

Disney TV bosses axed the animated show, based on the Uncle Scrooge comics in 1990 after three years and 100 episodes, but network executives at Disney XD have decided to bring back Scrooge McDuck, his three grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie and Donald Duck for a new round of adventures.

Studio representative Marc Buhaj says, “DuckTales has a special place in Disney’s TV animation history, it drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks’ comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults. Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation.”

The new version of DuckTales is due to launch in 2017.

The original cartoon series also spawned a film, titled DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, in 1990.
