Eddie Redmayne Reportedly Eyed as ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Lead

Eddie Redmayne is reportedly the frontrunner to star in the Harry Potter spin off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The Theory of Everything Oscar winner could be entering a land of magic and mystery soon as Newt Scamander, the main character in the highly anticipated Harry Potter spin-off film series. Variety is reporting that Redmayne is the “favorite” to take on the role.

Although a spin-off from the wildly popular Harry Potter series, the events of Fantastic Beasts actually take place about seven decades before Potter’s story even begins. The story follows the adventures of Newt Scamander and is based on the Hogwarts textbook he eventually ends up writing detailing said adventures.

The site is also reporting that Warm Bodies star Nicholas Hoult is another actor being eyed for the role. Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith has also expressed interest in starring in the film.

The first Fantastic Beasts movie is scheduled to debut November 18, 2016.
