Release Date for Next ‘Fast & Furious’ Installment Announced at CinemaCon

The success of Furious 7 makes it no surprise that the studio will be moving forward with another Fast & Furious installment, and now fans have a release date to look forward to.

The next chapter in the franchise has a scheduled release date of April 14, 2017 and the news was broken during the Universal’s CinemaCon panel. The franchise’s star Vin Diesel was on hand as well, and gave a heartfelt speech about the news and why it was bittersweet for him.

“The last time I was on this stage I was with my brother Pablo,” Diesel said to the CinemaCon crowd. “It’s hard for me to even watch that clip and then come out here without being emotional.”

The star hasn’t been holding back what effect promoting the film without co-star Paul Walker has been, even naming his newborn daughter Pauline, after the late actor.

“I named her Pauline… There’s no other person that I was thinking about as I was cutting this umbilical cord. I just thought… I knew he was there and it felt like a way to keep his memory a part of my family and a part of my world,” he told Today.

Furious 7 has earned an impressive $1.1 billion globally since it opened in theaters April 3.
