Common Joins Cast of ‘Barbershop 3’

Musician/actor Common’s 2015 has been off to a great start and shows no signs of slowing.

The star won an Academy Award, along with singer John Legend, for their original song “Glory” from the Selma soundtrack and now Common is taking his talents to the set of Barbershop 3. According to Deadline, Common joins the cast of the film along with Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer, both of whom are reprising their roles from the previous installment. Malcolm D Lee, who has directed films including Undercover Brother, Roll Bounce and The Best Man trilogy, will take charge of directing the third installment in the series.

Common has been keeping busy since his Oscars win. The most recent rumors surrounding the musician are that he’ll be portraying Black Manta in the upcoming super-villains flick Suicide Squad. If true, Common could have a lot more work as a super-villain ahead of him, since Black Manta is best known as Aquaman’s nemesis and since Jason Mamoa will be starring in an Aquaman movie, Common’s work as Black Manta could be far from over. Although we know he’s been confirmed as a member of the SS cast, no additional details on his role have been released, so this is all still pure speculation.
