‘The Royals’ Is Royal Hit for E!

If you’re anything like me and loved the fantastic fashion and unbelievable drama that Gossip Girl dished out in droves, then you’re probably already hooked on E!’s first original scripted series The Royals.

The show follows the juicy lives of a fictional British royal monarchy, starring Elizabeth Hurley and Vincent Regan as Queen Helena and King Simon, along with William Moseley as Prince Liam and Alexandra Park as Princess Eleanor. The series debuted on E! March 15 and was renewed for a second season before its premiere. E! must have known what it was doing, however, since the ratings for the series have been steadily growing each week.

Adam Stotsky, president of Esquire Network and general manager of E! Entertainment, shared his thoughts about the show’s reception with Variety saying,“We couldn’t be more happy with how it’s performing. The typical trajectory is these scripted shows launch really big and then they drop down to find their floor where they continue to exist. We started strong and it’s continued in that same general vicinity.”

The network certainly seems to know its audience, which could be one reason why The Royals is doing so well right now. “We’ve got a very specific, but big audience, that we’re targeting,” Stotsky told Variety. “Entertainment, pop culture, the whole sort of celebrity world is of great interest and of great passion to our audience. That subject matter is incredibly wide-ranging and allows us to tell lots of stories like what’s unfolding in the world of the Kardashians on a daily basis. Now, having the opportunity to tell that story through a scripted lens is really quite liberating and quite exciting.”

While we’d rather not associate The Royals with the Kardashians, we definitely see why fans have no problems coming back each week.

Have you tuned into The Royals? What do you think of the series?
