A Female ’21 Jump Street’ Could Be Headed Our Way

Yes, you read correctly. A female-centric version of the hit comedy film 21 Jump Street is reportedly in the works over at Sony.

The news hasn’t been officially announced, but thanks that new wave of searchable leaked Sony emails, we may have some insight into how Sony is planning on expanding the 21 Jump Street universe. According to The Wrap, Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs, writers for Comedy Central’s Broad City, have been tapped to script the film

No information on the lead females is currently available, but The Wrap is speculating that since Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson appeared in Jump Street, her character is open for making a return. They also state that “it’s also possible that Sony could recruit talent from that network, such as Amy Schumer, Jessica Williams and Broad City stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson.”

Keeping in line with the female reboots, Sony is also heading up a female version of Ghostbusters. The movie will star Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Melissa McCarthy.

There was also talk of a potential Men in Black/ 21 Jump Street crossover, which is probably the strangest thing we’ve heard all day. There was no word as to whether or not the crossover would feature appearances from Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones or Josh Brolin, but if it won’t they probably just shouldn’t make the movie.

Do you think “female reboots” will replace the currently popular “general reboots”? What actresses would you like to see star in the film? What are your thoughts on this weird MIB crossover? Talk to us in the comments below!
