‘The Vampire Diaries’ Star Kat Graham Set to Star in Tammi Terrell Biopic

Most of you know Kat Graham as Bonnie Bennett from The CW’s hit series The Vampire Diaries, but the actress currently is preparing for a new role that will allow her to exercise her vocal chops.

Graham will take on the role of Tammi Terrell in the upcoming biopic about the tragic singer who produced a string of hits with Marvin Gaye in the 60s before passing away at the young age of 24 due to a brain tumor. Terrell began her career as a backup singer in the James Brown Revue, then went on to land a few hits as a solo artist before teaming up with Gaye. The pair produced hits like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Your Precious Love” and “Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing.”

“I immediately connected to Tammi and her story in many ways and have felt the incredible need to tell it,”Graham told Deadline. “Tammi Terrell defined passion and soul itself. … Getting lost in the music enabled her to override life’s punishments — for when she sang, she could use the hurt to create greatness and give the world hope that maybe they could overcome their pain as well.”

The movie will mark Kat’s feature film debut. She’s also currently working on her latest album with producer Babyface.
