The trailer for Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig’s Lifetime drama-spoof A Deadly Adoption, gives us a clearer picture of what to expect when the movie premieres this weekend.
The film is inspired by a true story and follows a successful couple (played by Ferrell and Wiig) who house and care for a pregnant woman (Jessica Lowndes) during the final months of her pregnancy with the hopes of adopting her unborn child. While the previously released teaser gave us a glimpse at the plot, we now know that this is a classic case of crazy woman trying to infiltrate an unsuspecting family, a la Poison Ivy or The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.
This trailer has all the Lifetime movie tropes, young, beautiful yet severely imbalanced woman, overly-trusting married couple, husband with a wandering eye and ohhh the drama!Ok, we know you can’t wait and we’re done keeping you in suspense.

Golden Globe® and Emmy® Award nominee Ferrell (Everything Must Go, Stranger than Fiction) and Oscar® and Golden Globe nominee Wiig (Skeleton Twins, Bridesmaids) filmed the project in secret, and after briefly scrapping it thanks to a media leak.
Although billed as a “high-stakes dramatic thriller”, the film is the first of “a plan to release a quasi-parody of the soapy thrillers Lifetime is so well known for,” according to EW. Judging from the trailer everyone seems to be playing their roles pretty straight, with some campy bits and pieces in there.
A Deadly Adoption premieres this Saturday, June 20 at 8pm ET/PT on Lifetime.
