A ‘Maleficent’ Sequel Is in the Works

A Maleficent sequel is definitely in the works, multiple sources have confirmed.

The Wrap was the first to break the news of the talk of a sequel, with a source telling them that the original screenplay’s writer Linda Woolverton is in talks to return to write the sequel. It’s also being reported that Jolie has yet to sign on to the project, but is being kept “in the loop” about the film’s development.

Maleficent‘s original producer Joe Roth will be returning for the sequel, while director Robert Stromberg is not expected to return

Maleficent grossed $760 million worldwide, so the fact that another film has been greenlit comes as no huge surprise.

What will come as a surprise is if Angelina Jolie signs on for the sequel. The actress is rumored to be iffy when it comes to sequels, having turned down roles in follow-ups for both Salt and Wanted. Ever since Jolie’s sequel to Tomb Raider, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, was not so well received, the star has been known to be very picky when it comes to doing sequels, rarely ever doing them.

Do you think a Maleficent sequel is a good idea? If Jolie doesn’t sign on again, would you like to see the sequel move forward without her? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
