Netflix Orders Maria Bamford-Led Original Comedy Series ‘Lady Dynamite’

Netflix has ordered a new original comedy series starring funnywoman Maria Bamford, titled Lady Dynamite.

The series, which will be executive produced by Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz, is based on what Bamford has accepted to be “her life.” Also serving as executive producers are Bamford and Pam Brady (South Park, Neighbors from Hell). The occasionally surreal episodes, refracted across multiple periods inspired by the actor/comedian’s life, tell the story of a woman who loses – and then finds – her s**t.

Bamford is most recognized for her work as the Target Lady during the Christmas ads, but is also a strong voiceover artist, having lended her voice to Adventure Time, The Adventures of Puss in Boots, The Legend of Korra, Golan the Insatiable and more.

This project is part of Hurwitz’s multiyear overall deal with Netflix that he signed in 2014. He’ll also serve as EP on Will Arnett’s upcoming Netflix comedy Flaked, which follows a self-appointed guru who falls for the object of his best friend’s fascination. As if Hurwitz weren’t busy enough, there has also been talk about possibility of a fifth season of Arrested Development in recent months, but nothing has been confirmed, according to THR.

There’s no word on when the thirteen, 30-minute episodes of the single camera comedy will debut on the network, but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear.
