‘Girl Meets World’ Star Rowan Blanchard Gives Gender Equality Speech at 2015 UN Women National Conference

Girl Meets World star Rowan Blanchard may only be 13 years old, but that doesn’t mean she’s not a poised young woman with a view on important issues, like gender equality.

On Saturday, the Disney star gave a speech on gender equality at the UN Women U.S. National Committee 2015 Annual Conference about gender equality. The actress was poised and passionate as she spoke to the crowd about how the subject of gender inequality, telling the crowd “Around this age, studies show that girls lose interest in S.T.E.M subjects, science, technology, engineering and math. Unfortunately, those studies show that one of the reasons…is that girls in my age group would rather be liked, than be engineers.”

Rowan previously told Just Jared Jr.com how she felt about being involved with the project saying, “Oh my goodness! I am beyond excited. It’s such an honor,” Rowan exclusively told JJJ about her involvement. “I can’t even believe it’s happening. I’m speaking about gender inequality in youth, which is something that is so incredibly important to me.” She went on to confirm that excitement with a tweet which read, “I cannot believe I spoke at the @USNC_UNWomen @UN_Women conference today. So surreal.”
