‘Doctor Who’ Star Peter Capaldi Teases What’s Ahead in Season 9

Doctor Who is set to return for its ninth season this year, as well as make an appeareance at Comic-Con next week, so in honor of both, the show’s star Peter Capaldi decided to share some interesting tidbits about what fans can look forward to.

The star talked to Entertainment Weekly about everything from how he’s looking forward to attending next week’s Comic-Con in San Diego, to what we can expect from the Doctor this season, to giving hints about the one of show’s big guest stars, Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams.

Here are some highlights from the interview:

On the two-part season premiere

“It places the Doctor in a conflict that is central to his being, as well as containning some subtle tributes to the ’60s, and truly wonderful guest performances.”

On Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams’ guest appearance

“Maisie is fantastic. A sharp, talented tornado. As an 18-year-old, she has taught me many new words and expressions. All I’ll say about her character is she shifts in cosmic ways.”

On his relationship with Jenna Coleman’s Clara this season

“They’ve suddenly realized that they are the most fortunate people in all of time and space and are hellbent on adventure. Jenna continutes to deliver a beautifully nuanced, complex, and funny performance that marks her out as one of the best companions ever.”
