‘Inherent Vice’ Director Paul Thomas Anderson Tapped to Pen Robert Downey Jr.’s ‘Pinocchio’

Paul Thomas Anderson is reportedly next in line to write the upcoming live-action adaptation of Pinocchio, which is being produced by Robert Downey Jr.

The director and Downey Jr. are good friends and have been looking to work together for some time, with Downey previously set to star in Inherent Vice, but dropping out due to scheduling conflicts. Now Anderson has signed on to the project to “write a draft with an eye toward directing,” according to THR.

As many of you know, the film is the tale of a wooden puppet boy’s quest to become a real boy, needing to overcome his difficulty with telling the truth along the way. Robert Downey Jr.’s Team Downey is producing the project, along with Warner Bros., and Downey is set to star as Pinocchio’s creator/father Geppetto.

Also according to THR, “Downey has been developing Pinocchio for years, but the project has found new urgency in the wake of a string of live-action hits based on kids’ classics, most recently Disney’s Cinderella.”

What are your thoughts on the latest fairytale that’s being adapted as a live-action project? Who would you like to see cast as the puppet that wanted to become a real boy? Let us know in the comments below!
