‘Doctor Who’ EP Teases ‘Game of Thones’ Star Maisie Williams’ Guest Role

Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams’ guest-starring role on Doctor Who is still being kept a secret, but the show’s executive producer gave fans a hint about what to expect from her upcoming appearance.

Steven Moffat gave reporters a little (and we mean little) bit more of an idea about Maisie’s role at the Television Critics Association summer press tour today. “Once you see what she’s up to in the show, you’ll appreciate what a clever [idea that was],” said Moffat. “It’s a significant role. We’re not throwing her away.”

Also, for those of you who thought she could be playing a returning character…nope. “She is a brand new character. She is not someone from the Doctor’s past,” the EP said. “It’s a great part and she’s terrific in it. It will develop in unexpected ways.”

The Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi, previously spoke highly of Maisie, calling her performance “cosmic” and saying, “I love cosmic, it’s such a great word, it covers so many bases,” he said. “She’s wonderful in it, and also, what’s great about Maisie, she changes, she metamorphosises. She’s metamorphic.”

Other guest stars confirmed for the new season include Rufus Hound, Simon Lipkin, Ian Conningham, Murray McArthur, Tom Stourton, Ariyon Bakare, John Voce, Barnaby Kay, and Struan Rodger.
