Bill Murray Opens Up About ‘Ghostbusters’ Cameo

It’s no secret that Bill Murray will be making a cameo in the upcoming female-led Ghostbusters film, but now the star is revealing what got him onboard to make the appearance.

Murray is the second of the original Ghostbusters that have been confirmed to make a cameo appearance in the new film, with Dan Aykroyd’s return already having been confirmed by Dan himself via Twitter. Now, Murray is explaining what, or who, played into his decision to appear in the 3rd, female-driven installment of the movie.

The star told Variety that he had to think about whether or not stepping back into that world was something he really wanted to do. “I thought about it for a very long time,” he said. “Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really … It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part].”

It seems like the genuine kindness and combined talent of the cast were what ended up drawing Murray back in.

“You know, they were incredibly nice to ask me, and I really enjoyed being there,” the actor said. “They have such a jolly group, and they are going to have great success with this project. I didn’t want to overshadow [them] or anything, and I feel really good about it.”

“I like those girls a lot,” he added. “I mean, I really do. They are tough to say no to. And Paul is a real nice fellow.”

Ghostbusters is being directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) and stars Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, Chris Hemsworth and Neil Casey.

The film heads to theaters currently set for July 15th, 2016.
