Cate Blanchett Reportedly Set to Star in Aaron Sorkin-Penned Lucille Ball Biopic

Cate Blanchett has reportedly landed the lead in a Lucille Ball biopic, a role that could land her another Academy Award.

The Wrap was the first to break the story, reporting the Ball and Desi Arnaz’s two children,Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., will produce the film in collaboration with Escape Artists.

The script will be penned by Aaron Sorkin, although there is reportedly no deal in place for the acclaimed writer and producer at the moment.

Sorkin’s biopic will center around Ball’s tumultuous 20-year marriage to her I Love Lucy co-star and Desi Arnaz.

Blanchett already has 2 Oscars under her belt, along with 6 nominations, so we wouldn’t be surprised if this lead to at least a seventh nomination for the talented actress.

Sorkin, so stranger to racking up the awards himself, having won the 2011 Academy Award for Best Writing Adapted Screenplay for his work on The Social Network.

If everything works out, having these two on a project together, along with the support of the family, could result in one masterful biopic.

There’s no word on who will star opposite Blanchett as Desi Arnaz, but we’d love to hear your opinions on who could do the role justice in the comments below!
