‘The Hunger Games’ Star Mahershala Ali Joins Marvel and Netflix’s ‘Luke Cage’
Mahershala Ali, who has appeared in both The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2, is getting ready to take on an entirely different role in Netflix and Marvel’s upcoming series, Luke Cage.
The actor, also known for his role as Remy Danton in House of Cards, has joined the cast of the third Marvel show to debut on Netflix. Ali will play Cornell Stokes, aka Cornell Cottonmouth, in the series. According to EW, in the series “Stokes owns a nightclub in Harlem and his illegal operation will bring trouble to Cage’s world.”
Ali announced the news with a short, but sweet Instagram with a picture of his new alter ego and post that reads “2016 #cottonmouth #lukecage #marvel.”
The series stars Mike Coulter as the super-strong hero. Cage will appear in Marvel’s second superhero series on Netflix, AKA Jessica Jones, which premieres later this year, ahead of the premiere of his own series, heading to the network in 2016.
Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are three of four Marvel characters who will each receive their own series on Netflix, the final being Iron Fist.
